What We're Made Of...

Candles have been around for centuries and can be made from all sorts of commodities, but the vast majority of candles today are made from paraffin, a petroleum derivative.  Although paraffin is certainly effective for its purpose, we choose to make our candles from all-natural soy wax for a number of reasons:

• Soy wax is a completely renewable resource, and with developments in sustainable agriculture, makes almost no negative impact on our environment.
• We make our candles in Indiana, one of the largest soybean producing states, and we purchase our wax nearby so we're able to minimize the cost and impact of transportation - imagine the costs of importing petroleum, shipping the refined paraffin to manufacturing facilities, then on to consumers...
• Soy wax is clean - our wax is food grade, kosher certified, and produces no soot.  Even with fragrance and color, our candles will produce 90% less soot than paraffin candles.
• Soy wax burns cooler and longer.  Our wax melts at just over 120 degrees, which is fifty degrees less than paraffin.  The cooler melt point increases burn time by 20% or more, and means that a wax spill won't injure and is quite easy to clean up.
• We use woven cotton wicks - no metal cores to add metals to the air, clean burning, and safe.  We add a zinc safety tab and glue the wick to the base of the container to ensure the flame never contacts the glass.
• Our candles are strongly fragranced with concentrated oils to ensure both hot and cold throw that lasts till the last burn, and we use vibrant colors that enhance the candles' natural beauty.
• Our glass is elegant and recyclable.  We go even further, specifying thick-walled glass that enables us to repour.  We routinely "buy back" glass from our customers so that it can be reused, diminishing our impact on the environment.
